A car that caught fire on Highway 401 in Mississauga this afternoon has caused major traffic delays and lane closures

According to the OPP, the highway is congested in both directions just east of Dixie Road. Currently, two westbound lanes are closed.

“Emergency crews are at the scene and the fire is out,” police say.

The OPP posted an eight-second video clip on X (formerly Twitter) showing the aftermath of the fire. The vehicle is barely recognizable, with smoke coming from the exterior. Firefighters are seen gathered around, attending to the back of the car, which is low to the ground and missing its tires.

Luckily, no injuries were reported, and the cleanup is anticipated to be complete by 5 p.m.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
