Building applications go digital with launch of new online portal in Brampton

The city is streamlining how thousands of building permits and applications come to Brampton every year with a new online system.

The new Brampton Building and Business Portal went live on Monday giving builders and businesses in the city a one-stop, online application service.

From applying and paying for building permits to scheduling inspections, the new portal will help Brampton reduce paperwork, enhance communication with customers and manage the flow of building projects, according to the city.

The city says Brampton receives an average of 8,000 permits every year for all types of projects, and the new online system “will simplify how applicants apply for, pay and receive permits.”

Brampton’s Building Division oversees all the zoning, signage, building permits and building inspections in the city. Building permits are required to ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code (OBC), zoning and other applicable law.

Here are some of the services being offered on the new Brampton Building and Business Portal:

  • Apply and pay for building permits
  • Provide additional information requested during pre-screening and plans review
  • Pay the application and permit fees using secure payment methods
  • Schedule and cancel inspections
  • Check the status of applications and inspections
  • Download permits, approved drawings and certificates up to six months from the date the permit is closed
  • Request copies of property records and surveys
  • Pay for building records online using secured payment methods
  • Submit and receive responses to Compliance Requests

Home Builder Members will also be able to apply for certified models and repeat residential homes, as well as book permit inspections.
