Brampton officials are calling on the public this summer to assist with strategies for snow clearing for the upcoming winter.

While this sort of incentive may seem out of left field for early July, representatives within the city are encouraging public opinions on windrow and sidewalk clearing when the snow hits later this year through an official survey.

Last winter saw a significant number of abrupt snowstorms impacting regions throughout Southern Ontario, with some being severe enough to ground numerous flights at Pearson International Airport.

Representatives for the city have already laid out the initial groundwork for municipal clearing initiatives for the upcoming winter, including costs and taxpayer impact.

At the time of publication, these strategies and their surrounding costs are:

  • Sidewalk Clearing: Clearing costs are estimated at a little over $2-million — translating to an average increase of $12 per year in property taxes per Brampton area household.
  • Windrow Clearing: Clearing costs for snow ridges left by snowplows are currently hovering around a little over $19-million —  translating to an average increase of $86 per year in property taxes per Brampton area household.

Brampton area residents can take place in the survey by visiting the city’s feedback page, additional information on these strategies and their costs can also be found on the city’s main website
