Being runner-up in a competition, contest or draw isn’t a bad thing — especially when the prize is $50,000.

Mississauga’s Vassilis Gioskos likely isn’t complaining after walking away with that amount of cash from the April 6 Ontario 49 draw in which his ticket earned him second prize.

It’s not known if the Mississauga man chose his own numbers or if he purchased a ticket containing randomly generated digits, nor has it been revealed how often he plays the lottery.

His reaction upon learning he had won is also a mystery.

But that’s OK, say OLG officials in charge of running the various lottery games and draws. Not every winner of a big cash prize has something to say.

While most big OLG lottery winners do choose to offer public comments and reaction upon claiming their giant cheque, they’re not mandated to do so. They’re only bound by lottery rules to either have their photo taken by OLG officials or supply a photo themselves for publication.

The winning ticket was purchased at Busy Bee Mart, on Alexandra Avenue in Mississauga.

Ontario 49 draws are held every Wednesday and Saturday.
