3 weather warnings in effect this morning in southern Ontario

It’s going to be wet and windy today.

There are rainfall warnings and statements in effect for most of southern Ontario, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

There is also a special weather statement in effect for wind.

The rainfall and wind warnings are widespread from:

  • Mississauga
  • Toronto
  • Brampton
  • Halton
  • Hamilton
  • Niagara
  • Durham Region

Significant rainfall continues through Friday morning, with a total rainfall of nearly 50 mm.

Rain will continue through early morning, then tapering to showers Friday morning.

Periods of rain will continue through tonight. The heaviest rainfall is expected overnight before tapering to showers Friday morning. There will also be a risk of thunderstorms tonight.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Strong northwesterly wind gusts late Friday afternoon through Friday night, with northwesterly winds gusting 70 to 80 km/h.

Northwesterly winds will intensify late Friday afternoon into Friday night with gusts of 70 to 80 km/h. Winds will ease late Friday night into Saturday morning as the low-pressure system departs.

Strong wind gusts may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

Utility outages may occur.


There is also a fog advisory in Hamilton and Halton Region.

Near zero visibility in fog is expected or occurring over some areas.

Areas of dense fog are occurring, particularly over areas of higher terrain.

Visibility is expected to improve this morning.

Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations.
