3 restaurants that closed in Mississauga in July 2024.

From burgers to coffee to sweet treats, we all have a go-to place to satisfy our food cravings. When these establishments close for good, it can be challenging to find another just like it.

Here are three restaurants that shut down their businesses in July, which left some of its regular customers disappointed.

Burger Priest

Burger’s Priest has closed its long-standing location at 129 Lakeshore Rd. E. in Port Credit as of July 15. The popular chain did not provide a reason for the closure on its website.

This came as a surprise to residents who frequented the restaurant for nearly 10 years.

Shant Mardirosian founded the restaurant in 2010. It has grown from a single location on Queen Street East in Toronto to over 20 eateries across Ontario.

Some popular offerings include The Vatican and The High Priest burgers. The Vatican features a double cheeseburger with a unique twist: its bun is made of two grilled cheese sandwiches.

The High Priest is inspired by the classic Big Mac which includes two beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions on a sesame seed bun.

In addition to their burgers, the restaurant offers milkshakes available in flavours like vanilla, chocolate and strawberry.

Now, Mississauga diners craving burgers from this place will have to visit the nearest location at 5027 Hurontario St.

Hale Coffee

Hale Coffee, an independent coffee roaster, announced on July 9 that it will close its Square One Shopping Centre café tomorrow (July 28.)

Co-founder Ramzi Yanis expressed disappointment in a news release, stating, “Since opening our doors in 2019, we have been honoured to serve the vibrant community of Mississauga.”

The coffee shop, which has five locations across the Greater Toronto Area, is seeking a new location in Mississauga. Yanis assured customers that, though it isn’t a permanent closure, they hope to return soon.

Apricot Tree Cafe

Franz and Esther Hochholdinger, owners of Apricot Tree Cafe, announced their retirement after 31 years.

In a video posted on the cafe’s website, Franz Hochholdinger explained that the couple was ready to move on after decades of long work weeks.

He expressed gratitude for the community’s support and highlighted the cafe’s achievements, including implementing clean air technology during the pandemic.

The cafe is known for its European dishes, such as chicken tarragon, crepes, osso buco and wiener schnitzel. Hochholdinger emphasized its commitment to providing great food and service until the sale is complete.

Despite the decision to retire, the couple plans to continue operating the cafe until a suitable buyer is found. They hope to find someone who will continue the cafe’s tradition for years to come.
