Firefighters knock down blaze at home in Brampton

One person was critically injured in a fire in Brampton last night.

The fire broke out in a two-storey building on Queen Street East near Main Street North around 11:50 p.m. yesterday (July 4), Peel Regional Police tell insauga.com.

The fire started in a second-floor residential unit, police said. Photos from the scene show the lower level of the building is Mako Hair Salon.

One female victim was taken to hospital with critical injuries, a Peel Paramedics spokesperson told insauga.com.

The victim was evacuated out of the building and is now in stable condition, police said. Police said her injuries were non-life threatening.

Brampton Fire extinguished the blaze but there was no information on the extent of the damage. A fire spokesperson could not be reached for comment.

The fire is not deemed as suspicious at this time, police said.

However, the scene is currently being held for the Fire Marshal to determine the cause of the fire, police said.

Queen Street East between Chapel Street and Main Street South is closed in Brampton.
